September 2019 || Wrap Up

Did anyone else feel like September just completely flew by? I didn’t really do that much in September except work although I did start a new hobby (netball) and I ran a 10k and got a decent time (for me). The most exciting thing of the month was that Sammy came to visit for a local comic con that four Harry Potter cast members were attending. My boyfriend also came along to see what comic con was about and he really enjoyed it!

For October, I have quite a few bookish things planned. I’m going to be meeting Jim Kay at Cheltenham Literature Festival and I’m also going to be meeting Leigh Bardugo on her tour. I’m taking my mum along for both which will be nice, plus it’ll give her a chance to see what the book signings I go to are like! I’m also going down to London the last weekend of October to see Sammy and we’re going to the Studio Tour dressed as Hogwarts Students. I’m honestly so excited to see it all dressed up for Halloween. I just cannot wait!

So onto the books. I said in my August wrap up that I wanted to have read 50 books by the end of September but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. I was quite close though! Despite not quite reaching 50 books read, September was a more successful reading month than August so that’s the most important thing!

Monthly Reading Total: 5 ||  Total Books Read In 2019: 48/30

Reading Goals for Last Month:

  1. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
  2. Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff
  3. Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
  4. Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
  5. The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh
  6. Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
  7. Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks

What I Actually Read:

  1. Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab
  2. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
  3. A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer
  4. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
  5. Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

Ok, so I didn’t quite stick to my TBR for September but I did make a start on it! I knew it was a bit ambitious anyway but I thought I’d at least try to challenge myself. I was actually part way through Darkdawn when September came to a close which is a little annoying as I wanted to have the whole series finished by the end of September but it just didn’t happen. If I’m totally honest, I really enjoyed Jay’s storytelling but I did find the pacing in all three books to be kind of slow. I think if it wasn’t for that, I’d have been able to get through them a lot faster and so probably would have finished all 3 before the end of September!

I was planning to read Pumpkin Heads at the end of September but decided that I wanted to pick it up closer to Halloween instead so that’s been moved onto my October TBR.

October TBR:

  1. Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
  2. Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
  3. The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh
  4. Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks
  5. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Vol. 1 by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
  6. Batman: Nightwalker (graphic novel) by Marie Lu
  7. Black Canary: Ignite (graphic novel) by Meg Cabot
  8. The Furies by Katie Lowe
  9. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling
  10. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

I’m keeping Darkdawn on here despite the fact that I was already reading it before October started because I didn’t actually get to finish it until October started. Now I know that having a 10-book TBR is extremely ambitious for me but 4 of those books are actually graphic novels and I could probably read all 4 in a day if I wanted to.

I’m also hoping to get a bit more read this month as although I’m going to be starting my next module for my accountancy course in the middle of the month, that does mean that I’ll be spending just under 2 hours on a train there and back so I can get some reading time in then. I’m also going to London for the weekend towards the end of the month so more reading time!

What was your favourite read of September? What books are on your TBR for October?

  1. I loved Pumpkin Heads in September. I also loved Eclipse the Skies and The Fountains of Silence. My October TBR started off with Best Friends by Shannon Hale and is continuing with All of Me by Chris Baron. I hope to get my copy of The Beautiful soon as well as Song of the Crimson Flower and Patron Saints of Nothing. It might be an awesome October!

  3. But you got so much done! How did you like “Tunnel of Bones”? I just finished “City of Ghosts” yesterday and am quite curious about the sequel. 🙂
I wanna read Pumpkin heads this month too and I ordered it but somehow the delivery date got pushed back and now it will only be here mid November. :/
