WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted Taking on a World of Words that I thought would be fun to get involved with. It involves answering three WWW questions about recent reads.
My reading this week hasn’t been the best. I knew it might take a turn for the worse this week anyway as I have an exam in a few days time so not completely surprising.
The other thing that happened, and I’m sure if you follow me on Twitter, you probably already know this, but my cat Polly passed away on Saturday morning. We have two cats (Polly and Lily) who we’ve had for 15 years now so they’re our resident old ladies. We’ve been keeping a closer eye on Lily as she’s been showing some signs of cat dementia and other things, however we didn’t realise that it was Polly that we should’ve been keeping an eye on.
Polly had been breathing quite rapidly for about a week but as she’d had a fall, we thought it was maybe shock from that and we always made sure to check on her. She went missing on Thursday night and thankfully on Friday evening, the neighbour behind found her in their garden tucked away. We took her to the vets on Saturday morning and they basically said that she was pretty bad and that she had respiratory distress. Her lungs were also filling with fluid which is why she was finding it difficult to breathe. Fortunately, it seems like it was an illness that progressed quickly which means she wasn’t in much or any pain at all until a few days before.
We do think that she would’ve come home if she could’ve but we think she was ok when she got over the fence but deteriorated quickly on the other side and so couldn’t climb back over. She was very much a homebody, rarely leaving our garden except to go into the neighbours, and she was also home in time for tea. She leaves a very big hole in our hearts and we miss her so very much.
What are you currently reading?
I’m still reading The Radium Girls and The Black Kids and I have made a little progress with both of them. I’m hopeful that once my exam is out the way, I’ll be able to speed through them but I am going away on Saturday so they may end up waiting until I’m back home.
What did you recently finish reading?
I haven’t finished anything since I read Fence Vol. 1 unfortunately!
What do you think you’ll read next?
As I’ve already mentioned, I’m going away on Saturday for a week and so I’ll be taking some contemporaries down with me to try and bring back a little bit of the Summer. I’m taking Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman, I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn and The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly by Jamie Pacton. I’m also thinking of taking The Black Kids down with me if I haven’t finished it by the time I leave for my trip!
